1. What are all these directories on my Linux account for?

The following directories have been set up on your Linux web space root directory:

cgi-bin: directory in which you should place all of your interactive CGI programs called in browser as http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/filename.cgi

data: directory for data storage for web applications

html: directory where all HTML files should go, all files placed here will be visible via internet

logs: Raw log files for your site are kept in this directory

pub: directory for anonymous FTP logins
report: directory that will store all WebTrends traffic reports

The following files are also located on your web space root directory:

welcome.msg: This is the text greeting you will see when you initialy connect to your site via FTP. Along these lines, you can create two additional FTP files. If you create a file named "user.msg" under your home directory, the message contained will be displayed when a true authenticated user logs in. Secondly, you may create a file named "anon.msg" under your root directory. This message contained in this file will be displayed when an anonymous FTP user logs in. All of these files must be "Plain Text" (*.txt).

sitevars: Miva configuration

README: file containing the directory description information as listed above.

If Frontpage is being used, extensions should already be installed in the HTML directory and can also be removed or installed via your hosting ADMINISTRATION page. - Updated: April 3, 2001
